General Care
All clays have been tested to ensure they are free of harmful elements. Glazes are produced using only naturally sourced materials and are free of lead and other heavy metals. Despite these precautions, their suitability for food use ultimately depends on how they are handled and cleaned.

Hand-wash each piece after use using a coarse bristled brush and light soap (avoid heavily scented detergents) and allow to air dry fully in between use. Due to the coarse nature of the materials used, certain unglazed surfaces feature minor amounts of porosity and may develop a patina over time. Staining will occur faster with dark or oily liquids. These changes should not be viewed as flaws, but rather as a natural evolution of the piece itself. If such changes are undesirable, soak or rinse pieces in water before use to reduce absorption.

Texture
As an artist interested in researching a wide variety of foraged materials, my work exists on a spectrum between functional and sculptural art. Surfaces range from fully glazed to polished/stone-like to coarsely textured. With this gradient of texture comes a gradient of suitability for different uses. Read below to better understand how I categorize surfaces. Please inspect images and read information thoroughly before purchasing. Returns due to dissatisfaction with function are politely declined.

Fully Glazed

Surface features a fully vitrified glaze. suitable for all uses. Certain pieces may still contain small stone protrusions or irregularities from sand. These qualities do not affect the integrity of the piece.

Raw Clay Finish

Surface features a coating of one or more raw clay slips, which are hand-sanded after firing to create a smooth texture similar to water-worn stone. Due to the sanding process, pieces may feature minor porosity and may become stained by dark/oily foods and liquids over time. Use gently and clean thoroughly in between use. Pieces may contain small stone protrusions or light texture.

Coarsely Textured

Surfaces feature heavy applications of sandy or coarsely textured clay. Envisioned as accent pieces or for light food use (dry food recommended, avoid use with cutlery, heavy sauces, etc.). Surfaces are sanded after firing to ensure fragments will not become dislodged with normal use.

Vessels

Due to naturally occurring sand and stones in the clay, certain vessels may sweat at the base. Protect delicate and valuable display surfaces with a moisture barrier, or by inserting an additional water tight container inside the vessel for fresh flower arrangements.
